West Beverly High Art Club |
Hello & welcome to the West Beverly High Art Club! Yes, in fact West Beverly High is a fictional school that is attended by the characters of Beverly Hills 90210, but nonetheless we started an art club that will feature artwork inspired by this tour de force show and maybe some others too. Contributors include me (Nick), my girlfriend (Jill), some fantastic Guest artists and some other folks we know (maybe you too?). Dig it! |

kellytaylorscrapbook asked: Um...I'm like totally under-represented. Where's the Kelly Taylor art?
Hey Kelly Taylor! You’re right – I’m sorry. I need to update the 90210 blog again. Would you like to make a piece inspired by yourself & send it to me??
Brandon’s Peach Pit Uniform & Props by Nick We take this moment out of the busy schedule of the West Beverly High Art Club’s summer school session to bring you a spotlight on the Wardrobe Department. They faithfully constructed each and every costume you saw on Beverly Hills 90210 - from popped-collar polos to flower print halter tops to bikinis to Steve’s bare chest. If I could own one outfit, it would probably be Brandon’s Peach Pit Uniform pictured here. It’s retro 90’s does retro 50’s - the only thing I wouldn’t have is Brandon’s awesome hairdo, so instead I could dress a mannequin in the Peach Pit uniform that is wearing a wig in the style of Brandon’s hairdo and maybe put a photo of myself on that mannequin’s face, and mission accomplished.

David Gets His Silver On by Nick
Ink on paper
Collection of West Beverly High Art Club
2011
After David gives a once-in-a-lifetime performance with Babyface at California University’s spring fair, he decides to take advantage of some of the spoils his newfound rockstardom affords him, such as gettin’ his silver on with a skanky chick who sits behind him in Poli Sci. Donna of course finds them in the back of one of Babyface’s many limos, and has no idea what’s going on until she gets in the limo & is all like “what’s going on guys?” they’re all awkwardly sweaty and out of breath, and then she finds a condom wrapper on the floor and that’s all she wrote for David Silver’s relationship with the lovely Donna. How she ended up marrying this douche-bag is beyond me, but she does eventually…. Oh Donna!

Stitchery of Dylan McKay by Stevi

The subtle, supple beauty of Luke Perry’s youthful visage is captured so elegantly in this one-of-a-kind stitchery by visiting artist Stevi. The artist dissects one of the many sweeping moments from the show’s intro, as Dylan McKay throws a glance off-camera. Just as we ponder similar mysteries throughout art’s past - The Mona Lisa, The Last Supper - Dylan McKay’s action, frozen in time for us, the viewers, begs the question-what lovely creature could ensnare the attention of this heartthrob? Is he glancing back at his tumultuous childhood - the one without a father? Maybe he’s glancing at us?

This poignant re-telling of the 90210 saga reaches through you. In a way, the story told here is the story that is re-told in every episode. Young teenagers struggling with their desires, questioning the very fabric of their mind’s reality, facing their demons head-on, confronting the poison that slowly festers inside us all. There is no reality in the zip code 90210, there is only… him.

David Silver Moments 1: David breaks down in tears after he admits to doing crystal meth
by Jill, Ink on notepad paper

2011
After David loses his little sister in the playground, he breaks down to his family and admits to using a drug known as “crystal meth.” Now this isn’t the same crystal, or glass, you might know from other shows like Breaking Bad - see David does takes his meth with orange juice - we’re not sure how this works, but can only imagine the citrus pulp & Vitamin C must combine with the inherent qualities of the crystal meth to deliver a stronger punch. Do not try this at home kids - this drug is dangerous, as you can see from the image above. Brian Austin Green delivered a knock-out performance in this scene. The message is clear: don’t do crystal meth with orange juice.
